Accountor is one of the largest financial and HR services company in Northern Europe. The company operates in 7 countries and employs more than 2,300 professionals (of which more than 300 in Sweden). The company aim to continuously reinvent financial services by investing heavily in new digital services.
Challenges and expectations
Accountor Sweden needed to focus more on profitability. Decisions affecting profitability needed to be delegated and in order to be successful; all employees had to be able to see the same information. Revenue and costs would be distributed through a reasonably detailed and fair estimate.
In order to enable a stronger profitability focus, a modern analytical tool was required in which consultants, managers and management could monitor profitability at a detailed level.
Existing data was available locally on different servers and in different cloud services. Accountor saw the need for a coherent solution where permissions could be secured and set on a detailed level without too much of administrative complexity.
The project
Calculations, allocations, forecasts and KPIs had to be collected in a common solution. The information would also need to be available in a flexible way through web, tablets and phones. These basic requirements led to the choice of a cloud-based solution in Power BI and Azure. With the choice of Power BI, we got the opportunity to configure read permissions at transaction level (RLS). RLS, in turn, made it possible to allow different user groups in the same data models/reports. As a result, one data model could cover the initial need for the entire organization.

With Power BI, employees and managers gained quick access to multi-dimensional profitability analysis, for example, by customer, team and employee. The flexibility of the tool enabled local adjustments without the solution falling outside the requirements from Accountor Sweden’s foreign parent company. Existing permission structures could be reused to easily implement authorization logic down to the transaction level.
Accountor about the result
The need was to implement an analytical tool for our consultants, managers and management, and the result was beyond that. We are very pleased with how all employees now use Power BI to analyze customers’ profitability. Profitability per employee is also an important measure used in conversations between managers and employees. By using Power BI everyone now sees the same information.
